What is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic adjustment technique that is often used in the care of pregnant women. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, the technique is primarily focused on assessing and adjusting the sacrum, which is the triangular bone at the base of the spine. The goal of the Webster Technique is to reduce interference to the nervous system and improve pelvic biomechanics, with the potential benefit of facilitating a more comfortable pregnancy and optimizing fetal positioning.

Here are key points about the Webster Technique:

1. Pelvic Balance: The Webster Technique is designed to address sacral subluxations, which are misalignments or restrictions in the sacrum. By restoring balance to the pelvis, it creates an environment that is more conducive to optimal fetal positioning.

2. Uterine Ligament Tension: The technique also involves assessing and releasing tension in the round ligaments of the uterus. Reduced tension in these ligaments contributes to a more relaxed and balanced pelvic environment.

3. Optimizing Neurological Function: We aim to improve the function of the nervous system by addressing any subluxations or misalignments in the spine. This may positively impact the communication between the brain and the reproductive organs.

4. Breech Presentation: While the Webster Technique is not a specific treatment for turning a breech baby, balancing the pelvis, and reducing tension in the uterus may create conditions that encourage the baby to move into a head-down (vertex) position.
